Tammy Nordby's elk
Tammy Nordby of Grygla, MN shot this 6x8 bull elk North West of Grygla on the morning of September 20th, 2011. The bull elk had a gross green score of approx 357 ½ inches. In Minnesota an elk hunt is considered once in a life time. This year in Zone 10 which is the Grygla hunting zone, there were 2 bull tags and 3 cow tags that were given out. The bull elk hunt started on Saturday September 17th and runs through Sunday September 25th. The cow hunt will follow later in the year.

Local Wildlife

Grygla is proud of its clean air and water.  We are rich in natural resources: large varieties of wildlife (elk, deer, bear, moose, ducks, geese) and many other species of wildlife, wild fruit and wildflowers.  Grygla is a central location of many wildlife areas and public lands, noted as good hunting areas.  Among them are the Thief Lake Wildlife Refuge to the north, the Agassiz National Wildlife Refuge to the west, and the Red Lake Wildlife Management Area to the east.  These are the largest wildlife areas in the state.
